My great gratitude for continually visiting the blog. My apology for not posting anything for awhile, life has been chaotic school assignments, portfolio to prepare, community responsibilities and being a main carer that just nothing left for me to breath. Slowly I will be able to keep up everything. For the main time, for those who are interested I have combine the workshop onto one because it was hard for me to manage both project on top of my full -time study and other responsibilities.

To all our prospective guest/participants,

Due to time constraint and only manage to attract 2 attendees the 'Caring for Country: Restoring Land and Cultural Understanding - ecological workshop at the Coorong' has been re-scheduled on the 6th - 9th of October 2009.

Also we no longer camping, you will be accommodated at Dormitories and for those who book in first you will stay at the newly built eco cabin (shared accommodation). There are only 4 eco-cabins so better hurry up (see image). The full-length windows of eco-cabins are designed to fully enjoyed the afternoon sunsets without stepping outside. Coorong Wilderness Lodge is situated where sunset is in full view and clear sky is perfect for star gazing.

It's only 3 weeks to go, please make your booking for the upcoming sought after workshop - 'Caring for Country: Restoring Land and Cultural Understanding an ecological restoration workshop.This workshop will be held on 23 - 26th of September 2009. Also, we will be no longer camping, we can stay on the shared dormitory accommodation or for those who signed up quickly and secured their place next week, will have a chance of staying on the newly built eco-cabins (shared) - a self- contained accommodation, the full-length mirror of each cabin will provide endless scenery of the peninsula and Coorong sunsets without stepping outside.

This workshop will give you firsthand experience and shared stories with the Ngarrindjeri People and learning about how culture is intertwined with nature.

Also, may I remind our prospective guest that workshop fee, covers everything there will be no added or extra out of pocket expenses in your side. You pay the workshop fee and that's it. We have our own chef, who will be responsible for food catering.

'The food will be distinctive, with an exciting blend of Asian influences…. exotic, succulent, spicy, aromatic and colourful… flavoured by a rich variety of herbs and spices to entice your taste buds.

Accommodations:
Camping (including on the fee - if you don't own a tent, please let us know, we can provide you one).

Dormitory style shared accommodation
In terms of other options in accommodation apart from camping, Coorong Wilderness Lodge offer a dormitory style shared accommodation (cater for 4 people)will cost;
$70.00 a night per room (sharing the cost is more affordable) with ensuites toilets and shower.

Eco-Cabins
Then the Lodge offers you the newly built Eco-cabins, it is more private with ensuite toilet, shower and kitchen (you have to let us know if you are thinking of staying in the Eco-cabin. The full length glass window of the Eco cabins, provide a panoramic view of the Coorong landscape.

To our valued guest and visitor, our Spring trip date is confirm as seen on the image advertisement, for further info don't hesitate to contact us. It is scheduled on 23 -26th of September 2009, 4 days and 3 nights.

The design of the poster is based on the shape of the Coorong Lagoon and all the photographs featured on the poster are taken from the Coorong. The colours are influence by the Coorong landscape itself. As you can see the Coorong is a wonderful place and offers many surprises. Who knows you will have a chance of seeing the rare and endangered bird species, the Orange Bellied Parrot (OBP)according to researchers its only 150 left on the wild and there's an urgent need to rescue this species before they disappeared, there was sighting of OBP's seen at the Coorong so join with us.

The following images were taken during our last workshop trip.

Joan was in-charge on the driving and Jill (front passenger)

First stop at Tailembend, re-fuel and had a break for a coffee then hit the road again. Second stop, Meningie on time for our lunch break, without realizing that I forgotten this delicious platters that I bought the day before (cursing myself for an hour), the funny thing was when i did the food shopping for this trip I ordered the platters the day before and arrived back home, realized I forgotten the platters, went back to the shop and the shop lady forgotten it too, so we wait till she finished preparing it. So, this delicious platter wasn't meant to be eaten for our trip and I think we meant to purchase our lunch at the Meningie Bakery, we made the owner happy though by buying our lunch in the bakery.

If you are thinking going to Meningie in South Australia don't forget to stop by at Meningie bakery.

Third stop at Camp Coorong, meeting Uncle Neville and introducing Jill to everybody.

At last we arrived at our destination at the Coorong Wilderness Lodge at Hacks Point, South Australia and we were greeted with this panoramic view of the peninsula.

The summer workshop trip went very well, although participants less than we were expected but everybody enjoyed. I will upload the slides of the trip soon.

3 more days to go till our 'Caring for Country: Restoring Land and Cultural Understanding - an ecological restoration tour at the Coorong event'.

What to bring

Be prepared for all kinds of weather, as the Coorong can be changeable (four seasons in one day). Bring rain gear and rubber boots (just in case it will rain). The forecast for this week is a bit warm so it is better to pack comfortable clothing for warm days and maybe one clothing to keep you warm during the night, but the wind can be quite gusty and dusty, brimmed hats could blown away so make sure that the hat you have has a drawstring to tightened and fine netting to protect your face from flies and mosquitoes.

Essential Items are:
Lunchbox, sunscreen, sunglasses, toilet paper, chapstick and mosquito repellant. Bring your own plate, coffee mug, fork & spoon, sugary snacks in case you have low sugar issues, small torch, ace bandage and personal first aid kit. Swags are O.K., tents are recommended in case of rain, long shorts/appropriate beach thongs for kayak, hiking boots or other shoes that are suitable for bush walking. Don't forget to bring a clear plastic bag for your important gear i.e. camera just in case it will rain. Marshmallows could be shared around the campfire.

Make sure that you pack all your swag/tent gear, especially check that the pigs are in the bag. Otherwise you will experience the same scenario as I have that I had pack all my camp gears except the pigs for my tent.

We are looking forward of seeing you on Thursday the 15th of January 2009 at 'P' Building Mawson Lakes Campus. Otherwise pre- arranged pick up for our prospective guest will be available, in case travelling to Mawson Lakes Campus will be awkward. But you have to let us know ASAP.

Hi all.
Had a closer look at the flag counter and we are really international!

We have been visited 328 times by people from 41 countries! Some of the Australian visits were tests,but all the others are genuine!

You may have noticed some experimentation with uploading pics through email. This works with a random selection of email clients except hotmail (that is a noted issue with my phone). You have to use the email you chose when you accepted the invitation to the blog, Its within the editing facilities. Attach the image. Don't insert it in the emails text. ISPs such a bigpond will have it up in seconds, gmail took about 10 mins. Also, the subject you gave the email becomes the title for the posting.

There, posting from anywhere on an international blog. Good way to start the new year!

Same thing but from gmail. Gmail took close to 10 minutes to process the image and post it. The only one I cant get working yet is hotmail. This means we can post through mobile phones on most mobile platforms. Give it a couple of days and I'll try an MMS to see if we can capture things live, unless anyone else wants to try.

Hi all,

I think all involved in the CBRP project should take collective moment to thank Jelina for all her effort in getting this blog up and running. While I was called upon for some of the technical bits, it was at Jelina's prompting and part of her overall vision.

Now we have a beautiful site with which to report our activities, hopes and visions for the Coorong. More than that, Jelina has worked intensley in promoting the blog, getting our project recognised by SA Tourism, and spreading brochures as a farmer spreeds his seeds. Hopefully many will germinate.

Jelina has also taken the project onto the world stage, just take a look at the flag counter to see how many visitors we have had and from which countries. The range is impressive. If you want more details, just double click on the flag counter.

So, join me as I say "thanks Jelina, where would we be without you!"

I spent the solstice (last Sunday) watching the pumps at Narrung, frantically pumping water from Lake Alexandrina into Lake Albert. It looked like old bile, a foamy brown, sort of like trying to resuscitate a corpse. It looks like money is being spent and equipment is being used, but it is only for appearances and for money. Lack of an environmental ethic is the cause of the problem.

If it ever rains again, we should have a plan to store all of the freshwater that is owed to the Coorong, which is 2000 GL, then we are only allowed to use the excess OVER and ABOVE the environmental water. Only if we respect the lakes ecosystem, will we be allowed to live and profit on this land. That is the law the local Traditional people followed, from thousands of years of experience.

Be prepared to bring your camera, because the Coorong Landscape offers many surprises for those who loves photography. As seen on the image I love macro photography as it gives me an opportunity to be up close and personal with the object . When you are close to the subject,it gives you that feeling of connection and a sense of place.

Last night had a small turn out of volunteers and guests. Those who attended were well looked after with a great presentation by Jelina and an good supply of food. Hi

Converted the powerpoint file for the presentation describing the workshop to a pdf file and added a link to it . It's under 'useful links. Just follow the link and when the filecube page opens, down the bottom there is a 'download file' link. Use this.

I'm just using filecube as a temporary parking space for our files as it is free and needs no signup. Once we get our website underway, they will all be shifted to there.

changed background of comments so that users can see the border between posts, it wasn't clear where one started and the other finished.

Added an 'email us' link at button of right sidebars.If users are using their PC email client, this will open an email with our address and 'Question about the project' in the subject line. The email will include any signatures etc they have as default. This doesn't work from web based email clients.

Extended the Visitors so it matches up with other sidebars, changed colour too to match. There is space for 4 columns of flags now.

Hi,

you can post your posts from an email client by using the email address that you define for yourselves under 'the 'settings' tab and choose email. You will be presented with a near complete email address that you only have to fill the middle bit in with what you want. This will give an email address as: log in emailname. yourchoice@blogger.com

The subject of the email will become the title of the post. Its fast, just a minute or so and you're posted. This means that you can add to the blog from any email source, blackberry, pda, laptop etc etc without needing to open and log in to the blog page.

Makes life easy, hey?

Hi all,

today I added the first of our Picasa web albums directly to the side bar. The first set is an ongoing one, showing scenery and activities by the volunteers and visitors. The second set is a temporary one of the salt pans around Henry's Island, this set will be changed regularly.

Even with the neglect of the government and the greed of irrigators upstream, this wetlands area can still put on a show of beauty.

Also, Ive edited the HTML and changed the background colors of the comments below the posts to the same as the background of the posts. Personally, I think this looks a little better than contrasting colours.

I have put the link to a Google Earth file that will show key points from the start of the Freeway through to Hacks Point. I've also added another a kml file that locates the pictures from the slideshow onto Google Earth. Just click the link, then at the bottom of the opened page and select 'download file'. I've only temporarily housed the files on a free site. When we get our website running, they will be on there.

ABOUT THE RESTORATION PROJECT (CBRP)
… jointly administered and operated by the Coorong Wilderness Lodge (CWL) and the University of South Australia (UNISA) and team of volunteers.

The Coorong Biodiversity Restoration Project is a research-based land restoration program. The purpose of this program is to demonstrate the application of ecological principles and strategies to integrate scientific and cultural land restoration approaches, using examples of:

*Research on local ecosystems with students, lecturers and visiting
experts, through a partnership with traditional land owners

*Cultural knowledge by the local custodian the Ngarrindjeri people,

*Enhancing natural regeneration with the assistance of the local birds(emu Dromaius novaehollandiae) and other fauna,

*Designing habitats for threatened species and sustainable ecosystems orange-bellied
parrot, Neophema chrysogaster, southern emu-wren, Stipiturus malachurus (race intermedius , sand goanna, Varanus gouldii/rosenbergi)

*Planting and monitoring of a mix of local species on extensively degraded land
